On Sunday, Jan. 24, guest artis, Anh Dillon from The Joffrey Ballet conducted a master class for area dancers. In addition, auditions were held for the Joffrey Ballet summer intensive programs. Twelve Dance Theatre Northwest Junior Dance Ensemble members were accepted into Joffrey. Two of the dancers, 15-year-old Lauren Trodahl and 14-year-old Oceana Thunder, were awarded summer intensive dance scholarships. Both dancers are currently performing leading roles in DTNW’s seasonal community service outreach performances.
As a result, many of DTNW’s dancers will be traveling to New York in June 2016. According to Dance Theatre Northwest President Teresa Neumann, “This is a great group of young people who work enthusiastically on all of their studies not just dance. It is wonderful to see them all succeeding on so many levels. I am proud of each one of them.”
As an organization, DTNW has a history of helping young artists toward reaching their goals and dreams. Another one of their core programs, the teacher assistant and dance captain certification project, recently granted eight level I and level II certifications. Each recipient attended classes, workshops and dance teacher training seminars, and passed oral, practical and written certification exams for their level. These young dancers will all be using their leadership skills to help others as they continue to grow and develop.
