Melinda's Micro's is a professional braiding and weaving service with more than 20 years of experience, and is conveniently located right in the center of University Place at 7406 27th St. W. The salon specializes in African-American hair, extensions and kids' hair. Owner Melinda Kumi provides the professional and friendly atmosphere.
The business has been around since December 2014, with an official opening in January 2015. Since then, not only has Melinda’s Micros taken off, but the other side of the store is now host to Eyram’s Fashions, a beauty supply boutique inspired by Kumi’s travels to Africa. The current hot item is an exfoliator for the body that uses shave butter to give beautiful skin.
“We can never keep it on the shelf – we’re waiting to restock right now,” Kumi said. “It’s an exfoliator just for the body made with all natural products with no chemicals.”
The product was originally sold through mail order, but it became so popular that Kumi devoted part of her store to the line. And it is the only place in the world you can get it.
“I am the creator of this product,” she said. “We have body bath size tea bags not for consumption but for relaxing when you’ve had a long day.”
This combined with the Melinda’s Micros side of the business and with Kumi’s professionalism make the business the place to be in University Place. It’s a one-stop shop for beauty from someone who has been in the business for nearly two decades. Kumi is a coordinator for the 2017 SANATA women’s convention, a meeting focused on the empowerment of women, and she is completely focused on growing her business.
“I think that coordinator aspect really sets me apart, “ Kumi said.
